(SRG) Reducing Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD) via ICT: coordinated use of information and communication technologies (ICT) to empower patients and their families to reduce SCD post myocardial infarction

CANet > CANet Newsroom > (SRG) Reducing Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD) via ICT: coordinated use of information and communication technologies (ICT) to empower patients and their families to reduce SCD post myocardial infarction

The goal of this program is to use a patient-led, iterative, mixed method design process to develop, validate and implement a range of complementary patient-centred information and communication technologies (ICT) to engage users to as to increase appropriate testing, management and intervention to reduce Sudden Cardiac Death following myocardial infarction. Ultimately we aim to create a “virtual health care provider,” specializing in sudden death prevention and complementary to current cardiac rehabilitation programmes, capable of empowering patients and improving access to guideline-directed cardiac care throughout Canada.
Impact:

  • Empower MI (myocardial infarction) survivors to become patient experts, cooperating and enhancing cardiac rehabilitation in improving access to guideline-directed management of SCD prevention, thus potentially saving thousands of lives each year
  • Socio-economic benefit of more frequent return to work, less disability, and a reduction in aborted sudden death events
